We need 4 volunteers
We are a small family farm in the foothills of the Sierra National Forest. We need help with planting, weeding and harvesting seasonal vegetables, caring for and milking goats, small construction projects like putting up greenhouses, and other tasks necessary to maintain an organic farm and provide healthy produce to our community. We're primarily interested in those who want to learn what it takes to operate a small farm and prefer those able to commit to at least two months.

Hansel and Sue Kern have been married 29 years. Hansel is a farmer and stone mason; Sue is an attorney and helps with the family's natural foods store, The Gnarly Carrot. Our son Aaron (age 26) manages the farm and our daughter Becky (age 29) manages the store.
We have two double wide trailers with bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms and several small RVs and other structures. Our visitors each get a private sleeping space but share communal kitchen, bathroom and living area.
We provide food which our volunteers cook themselves most meals and we share a group lunch during weekday workdays.
We exchange room and board for approximately 17 hours/week work and we provide workers comp and pay payroll taxes for the hours worked.
