Centennial Bridge / Puente Centenario

Panama's Centennial Bridge is a major bridge crossing the Panama Canal. It was built to supplement the overcrowded Bridge of the Americas and to replace it as the carrier of the Pan-American Highway. Upon its opening in 2004, it became the second permanent crossing of the canal. The Centennial Bridge is a fixed obstacle, but its clearance is 80.0 m (262 ft).)

City of Knowledge / Ciudad del Saber

The City of Knowledge business and technology park is popular for its striking views of Miraflores Locks, which raise and lower water levels as ships pass through the Panama Canal. Miraflores Visitor Center has observation decks, exhibits and 3D films about the canal's history. The area's broad green spaces attract walkers, joggers and bikers, and City of Knowledge Plaza’s food court features casual global eateries.


Metropolitan park / Parque Metrpolitano

Metropolitan Natural Park is a park in Panama City, Panama. It is the only wildlife refuge in the city. Wildlife found in the park includes bird species and Geoffroy's tamarin. The park was first proposed in 1974 and was inaugurated on June 5, 1988

Bridge of the Americas / Puente de las Americas

Crosses the Pacific approach to the Panama Canal at Balboa, near Panama City. It was built between 1959 and 1962 by the United States at a cost of US $20 million. From its completion in 1962 until the opening of the parallel Centennial Bridge in 2004, the Bridge of the Americas was a key part of the Pan-American Highway. The Bridge of the Americas greatly increases road traffic capacity across the Canal. Two earlier bridges cross the Canal, but they use moveable designs and have limited traffic capacity. These earlier spans include a small swinging road bridge, built into the lock structure at Gatún, and a swinging road/rail bridge constructed in 1942 at Miraflores. The Centennial Bridge was constructed to eliminate the bottleneck of, and reduce traffic congestion on, the Bridge of the Americas.
The bridge is a cantilever design where the suspended span is a tied arch. The bridge has a total length of 1,654 m (5,425 ft) in 14 spans, abutment to abutment. The main span measures 344 m (1,129 ft) and the tied arch (the center part of the main span) is 259 m (850 ft). The highest point of the bridge is 117 m (384 ft) above mean sea level; the clearance under the main span is 61.3 m (201 ft) at high tide. Ships must cross under this bridge when traversing the Panama Canal, and are subject to this height restriction.

Casco Viejo, is the old city’s heart, popular for its lively dining and nightlife scene. Cocktail lounges, rooftop bars, and global restaurants line streets decorated with elaborate murals. Colonial-era landmarks include the twin-towered Metropolitan Cathedral and the waterfront Palacio de las Garzas presidential home. Local shops sell traditional handicrafts.

Causeway

The Causeway of Amador Islands are four small islands by the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. They are linked to the mainland via a causeway, made from rock extracted during the excavations from the Panama Canal. In part the causeway was meant to serve as a breakwater for the entrance.

Punta Culebra Nature Center, located at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal, is dedicated to exploration and discovery of the natural world through science. The center, visited by more than 70,000 people every year, offers a mix of marine and amphibian exhibits, walking trails, hands-on science activities and recreational spaces, all in a spectacular setting just minutes away from Panama City.
