Spanish lessons in Antigua

Antigua, El Agua Volcan

Having the first reliable internet connection in some time, we decided it was finally time to upgrade our website, so we stayed in Antigua for an extra week. Mark worked very hard for the week and since I am no good at computers I decided to take Spanish lessons, hoping it will help us out along the way in Central America. I signed up at the Ixchael, a school just up the road from us, for five days at four hours per day. It was nice to start learning again, and brush up on my skills. I had previously learned some Spanish in college, so the first day was a refresher. We went through all of the basics of "hello, my name is Kylee. How are you today, I am fine, nice to meet you.." But honestly by the end of the first day I was exhausted.

The school was nice, considering how many there are many to choose from, and they have teachers there ready to give lessons at all times. You can live in the school and they provide meals as well, but Mark and I were already in a place and liked it - it had a pool. After the week was over we decided to leave Guatemala and head out to El Salvador. We took a shuttle at 8:30am and crossed the border; it was the smoothest border crossing we have ever had. We arrived in El Tunco at 1pm and found a place to stay. The town only has two main streets so it was super easy to navigate. We found a sign that said $0.50 papusas and $1 beer, so we pulled up a chair. Excited to use my freshly learnt Spanish I look at the lady and everything coming out of her mouth was un-comprehendable. The Spanish they speak in El Salvador has a different dialect and they talk super fast! So needless to say I asked her to slow down, and we got some papusas and beer.
